How to evaluate a good detailing shop
Here’s a guide to help you decipher a really good detail shop from a bad one.
This guide will help you to not get ripped off, get the services your car actually needs not
what they want to sell you and protect your vehicle’s surfaces from being damaged by
improper or outdated methods and or workers that only know one process.
THE MAIN FLAW WITH MANY SHOPS AND MOBILE DETAILERS

After twenty eight years in the industry, that there are thousands of detail shops around the
world that do the exact same process on every car for each service they offer no matter what
specific needs each car that they work on has, the different surfaces of cars between
decade, brand and model.
This is common because it is the easiest and fastest way to get new staff to learn how to
detail a car and get the most productivity and profitable. But that is not the right way to detail
cars, it’s the easy way.
It is far better to use a detail shop that listens to your needs, provides real solutions to those
needs that last and actually work whilst extending the lifespan of your vehicle’s surfaces.
Here is more information for how you can tell a good shop from a bad one when you call
them about any needs you have.
Paint
If they do not ask you what colour your car is, whether it’s original factory paint, been
resprayed (aftermarket paint) and then if it has been resprayed, what paint type it is or least
whether it’s clear coated or direct gloss/single stage ie the colour of the paint shows up on a
pad when it’s polished then that is not good at all.
Also if they don’t provide a few solution based services for you that match your problems
then you should avoid using them.
Leather
Do they understand and take into account your problems with the car’s leather seats and or
steering wheel, provide you with an excellent solution to your car’s particular problems or
needs, do they know what type of leather your car has because they have worked on the
same car before.
Can they explain the different types of leathers such as semi aniline, coloured, polyurethane
coated etc etc. If they give you a one type fits all solution, they are not the right detailer for
you.
Leather comes in many forms, grades, types and each has their pros and cons, true
professional detailers know the difference and how to work on them properly and safely.
Carpets
If the questions they ask are not about what kind of stains you have or what caused them, is
the carpet pile tall or very thin then there is another sign to not use them. Do they mention
steam cleaning, shampooing aka carpet extraction cleaning or encapsulation cleaning. If not
then do not use them, they are behind the times.

I brought my very sad looking black Honda Accord into detailology with quite a number of scratches and dull paint. I am amazed at the results they were able to achieve and highly recommend them. They worked in a professional and friendly manner and offered their expert advice for future care of my vehicle and future vehicles. Absolutely amazing results achieved boys. Thank you.
